DIAMAID’s founder, Christophe Gauthier, developed his first philanthropic initiative in France. The non profit organization was founded in 2000 in Orly, near Paris.
The organization‘s mission is accompanying recent migrants on French territories. Parents or children, steps to an integrated life go through learning the language as a primary element towards the understanding of a country and a culture. The organization also brings support with administrative tasks in order to access housing, education and overall social insertion.
The organization’s actions are rooted in daily life and long term commitment.
vThe language learning begins with an oral phase of discovery and entrenched into the daily life: during the meals, transportation, with simple and immediate vocabulary. Little by little are approached the reading then the writing, always with the objective to enable the "learners” to understand, to participate and so to share the indispensable for their socialization.
Man, woman and child, each with his own look according to his situation, learns a new way of life. To go even further, the association accompanies them in a wider cultural discovery, to the library and to the City cultural center..
After 7 years of existence, the organization welcomes and supports more than 380 learners today. In front of the unlimitedness of the needs of these new and often deprived populations, the association is mobilized more than ever.
